MISS CHERRY PIE red buffet pt 2

Big Reds sister is completed.
Cherry has nice legs and a brighter glow than her stately brother.
Big Red was waxed and polished from head to toe,
were as Cherry was finished with wipe on poly.
She needed little repairs all over, but we all know
with age comes experience.
Miss Cherry has not traveled too far from home in all her years!
Here is a fresh raw coat of Emperors Silk Chalk Paint on her body.
and the finished coat that topped her off.
Both her doors got magnetic closures.
Her jewelry was pretty but to hang in the pub with all those rough and tumbles
she needed something new to help fit in better.
Shell be catching the eye of many and maybe even a whistle or two.
Cherry will go home to her decorators home for a short stay then she will be off
to her new digs in the Fort Pub.

BIG RED red buffet pt1

Connie is dressing up the Fort Pub
and asked for a helping hand.
This is the first of 2 antique buffets
I’m doing in Emperor’s Silk Chalk Paint.
At this time of year this before shot reminds me of haunted houses
and ghostly apparitions of Halloween more than the handsome fellow he really is. 
One of those ghosts kept making the 3 cabinet doors swing open
So the first thing I did was to install magnetic catches and plates.
A small support piece had broken off at some point in Red’s recent history.
It wasnt going to take too much ghost busting for this fix,
just some nails and glue.
A couple of screws were misappropriated so
I replaced them and tightened everything else up.
The original hardware was removed to make way for something a bit more modern.
After all the finicky prep work was finished it was time to start laying some
bright red paint on this big guy. Would you be as frightened as I was?
I also wanted to work with the dark oak of this cabinet,
and have the wood show thru as if it had been stained.
It took a gentle hand to spray just the right amount of color
evenly over the entire surface.
 
The top was sanded back to show more of his ancestry,
and 5 coats of poly were applied to preserve it.
 
The hardware was chosen to mimic all the rectangular
shapes that already existed in the piece.
And look at these carved details in the center door.
It’s like something you would see on a mansion door.
The kind of ominous castle you dared your friends to approach
first when you were out trick or treating.
The reality is no pictures taken of Big Red shows the true color
and magnificent look that Emperor’s Silk achieved on this project.
It’s one of those
*you have to see it in person*
So after the renovations at the Fort Pub are finished,
(end of Nov)
be sure to look for BIG RED greeting you at the front door.

WHITE ON RED distressed chest

A different look was achieved when I used white paint
over red on this vintage dresser.
The color it sported when we came across it was a rusty red. 
Carrie at the Passionate Home was showing me some of the sample boards
of chalk paint colors and waxes, and we discussed the different layered looks
of colors that could be used. That got me thinking.
I dont like struggling against the furniture I found
and up to this point wasnt 100% on the right direction for this rusty piece.
I have done red over black before very successfully
but what color could I do over red and be just as happy with?
I really enjoy how choosing old white worked with this piece.
The lightness of the white changes the color of the rust to a richer burgundy look.
I had a customer come to pick up another dresser and
when she saw this one almost bought it as well.
Some vintage heart shaped ring pulls painted in a two tone cream
and white to the drawers finished it off perfectly.

Go Bold with RED Milk Paint!!

I've been sooooo busy. I finally got into a space at a store! 
But first.....
I Just completed another "Go Bold" Milk Paint Dresser!!! 
Can you say,  "RED".   OMG.  This milk paint, from the Real Milk Paint co. , has the most 
brilliant red! It's gorgeous! The tung-oil finish just makes it so beautiful. 
 I wasn't about to lug this in the house to stage it, only to lug it back out the next morning to transport it to the store! So you will just have to use you imagination, forgive my trashed garage floor, and shop-vac in the background! 
I painted the wooden knobs 'cuz I didn't have enough of the crystal!  I painted the appliques milk paint red and then dry-brushed w/CeCe's white.
 I found this cool fabric to line the drawers!

RED BERRY DECOR christmas decorating

 
Our front door was adorned with a cute pair of decorative skates, I found at the grocery store!
Hanging inside a bright holiday berry wreath with a hand painted sign to welcome you.
In the kitchen I put together some candles and cranberries in glass.
 
Simple glassware found in the cupboards, an assortment of candles, and
some cinnamon sticks.
The sun was out and strong when I got these fun photos
of some mini trees on the front porch.
